Grace Kelly: 30 years since her tragic death

It’s 30 years this week since Grace Kelly tragically died in a car accident.  I blogged about my small but significant crush on her earlier this year, so I thought I would share it again today for those who may have missed it, along with this gorgeous pic I only recently found with her son Albert II. She was known to be an exceptionally dedicated mother.

I don’t know how or when it started – I can’t remember the first time I saw her but I suspect it had something to do with driving our mother crazy and her needing some quiet time.  She probably plonked my sisters and I in front of Bill Collins’ Midday Movie and perhaps that particular day it happened to be the 1956 film High Society. It would very quickly become my all-time favorite movie, and Grace Kelly, my favourite ‘pretty lady from the movies’.

It was taken on this very day 67 years ago – 14th August 1945. A day forever known as VJ or VP Day (Victory over Japan/Victory in the Pacific).

The end of the of the second world war was declared only moments prior to this happy snap and celebrations rolled out into the streets around the world including this iconic location – Times Square, New York. The image was caught by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt who just happened to be at the right place at the right time as a Sailor grabbed a passing dental nurse for a celebratory PDA (public display of affection).
