Beware of the fiery Dragon in her make-shift cyclone bunker. She will eat you up and spit you out if you don’t put that camera away.

WARNING: today is a rant-fest.

It’s no secret that we are paying too much for the same product a US or UK shopper can purchase it for.  Regardless of its country of origin, they can have the same item significantly cheaper than we can in Australia.  Some products I have come across are somehow miraculously 70% more expensive as soon as they land on our shores and into our shops.

And that, to me, stinks.

In case you weren’t aware, we offer the sorella & me women’s and maternity collection to anyone in the world for the same price an Australian pays for it.

Why? Because why should an international customer pay more than an Australian customer? They shouldn’t.

Why should they pay less than an Australian customer?  They shouldn’t.

Make no mistake, it’s the 2 major Australian department stores that have been the front runners for excessive mark ups for eons.  It blows me away that they have gone from thinking we are stupid, to less stupid but still not entitled to buy goods for their RRP i.e., REAL retail price.

Why can’t they step up to the world-wide-shopping-plate, be competitive and just stop ripping us off?

An example:

I was out shopping with my cousin and friend for frocks to wear to a wedding. (Yes, we got distracted and looked at shoes too, but we were otherwise quite well restrained and focused on dresses. Note, none of this information is important. Consider it a ‘fun-fact’). Continue reading

A G-string is like a landline telephone – no longer necessary

It’s exactly 7 days til my wedding – which is why I am taking the lazy sensible option and re-blogging one of our most popular posts from last year – and it’s timed well given it’s the big V day next week (fyi, no I’m not getting married on Valentines Day, we are the 15th! So no excuses for J1 not to give me flowers 2 days in a row!).

I think you will enjoy it – and I thank you for giving me the grace of re-posting while I madly dash out to sort out my fiance’s tie (because apparently I am marrying a man who doesn’t feel the pressure of an important deadline)….

According to a study in 2008, French women spend 20% of their income on lingerie.  Yes, you heard me, 20-bloody-percent. This is probably about the same amount that I spend on car, life, home and health insurance all rolled into one (and there’s nothing sexy about insurance).

I vow to take the 20% approach when I one day look like this:

What did you miss in 2012?

Welcome back to the sorella-hood for 2013! We hope you had a wonderful time over Christmas with your family and set for another fantastic year!

As parents start to get the back-to-school preparations started, and men and women over the country groan their way back to work (dreaming of any sort of opportunity to be able to quit work and financially fund a permanent residence at the beach), Alisha & I are so excited to be reaching sorella & me‘s first birthday later this month, and can’t wait to see  where this year will take us (it’s going to be hard to top an amazing 2012!).

Aside from a overwhelming love of our sleepwear collection, a very surprising aspect of sorella & me last year was the growing love for this blog. We seemed to have naturally developed a little community of wonderful people to connect with via a couple of rambling posts each week.

If we can make you smile, raise some important questions, or perhaps help even answer some questions, then all the more important our time allocated for writing becomes.

So firstly – thanks so much for your support!

For today we thought you might like to know what our top 3 posts were for 2012 – this will give you a chance to read them again or perhaps discover them for the first time if you missed them the first time around!

In spot no. 3

“10 things to make you feel old, but also make you laugh”. I have now had another birthday since writing this post so it’s even more breathtakingly-dire!

This isn’t another Melbourne Cup fashion report

Melbourne Cup Fever. I have it. But not in the way you’d expect.

Fashion I love. But a talent for race day appropriate frocks and fascinators – I do not.

Race day to me is (shockingly) about the horses. The track report, the barrier draw, the recent form. Like a nerd who lines up at the Apple store to get the latest iphone the night before it’s released, I love the lead up to the final field sections, the pre-cup predictions, the race day form guide, and of course the actions that follow – taking a punt.

I’d rather spend my money on the horses on race day than a weapon for my head

It’s a very pink day today. And it’s fabulous!

Today is ‘Pink Day’ at my “other job” when not working on sorella & me…as secondary school teacher!

Seeing 14-year-old boys with balloons for breasts and wearing pink bras, I’ll admit, makes me feel a little uneasy (!)… But their dress-ups and spirit is heart-warming and for a great cause – we are fundraising for Breast Cancer research as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. And today, I remember my beautiful Aunty who lost her young life to Breast Cancer.

It’s time to give your ‘Mum Uniform’ a comfortable but stylish overhaul

Sitting at the Brisbane airport recently waiting for a flight, I (for a change) was early and this gave me plenty of time to ‘people watch’. Boy there are some colourful characters in the world! It instantly became a reminder for me not to get caught up in the safe world of “mummy fashion”.  You know the style – the good old comfy uniform of ballet flats, slouchy tee, skinny jeans and swipe of lip gloss.

It always looks good, but let’s face it, it’s certainly “safe”.

There’s nothing like sitting in an airport and a trip to the big smoke to remind us folk from smaller, often more relaxed and casual pastures, that just because you’re 30 plus (plus a bit more!) and a mum who has to be able to chase children and lift them up and down without having a Kath and Kym moment of underwear on display, doesn’t mean we have to always play it safe. Style CAN equal comfort.

My attention was drawn to a woman with an Audrey Hepburn-type look – in what you could consider a safe ensemble with a black trench, black skinny pants with ankle zips and black flats. However, to my surprise she had a massive red rose tattoo on the top of her foot. It gave her an edge to what I would otherwise consider very classic safe styling.

Perhaps I should get a tattoo?
