Capturing the love of a mother with her newborn child

My husband bought LittleOne baby magazine for me when I was pregnant years ago. I hadn’t seen the magazine before and knew straight away there was going to be something special inside the glossy pages! It has remained as one of my favorites. I especially love the features they do on children’s bedrooms titled “Baby’s Space’.

The current issue of LittleOne baby is no exception and has a beautiful feature on new mums- real mums in the hospital just days after giving birth. Amy Doak mentions in her Publisher’s letter that there is nothing quite like “the look of love on a new mother’s face” (LittleOne baby Issue 10 p8). Photographer Kate Monotti has certainly captured this in the recent shoot. And we were thrilled to be able to supply and gift our sorella & me sleepwear to a gorgeous mum in the feature.

I remember a local photographer from the paper coming to my room after the birth of my babies with his camera wanting a picture, boy was I apprehensive! That experience for a little local paper was nothing on these brave and beautiful mums that have said yes to a magazine shoot so soon after birth.

WARNING: today is a rant-fest.

It’s no secret that we are paying too much for the same product a US or UK shopper can purchase it for. Regardless of its country of origin, they can have the same item significantly cheaper than we can in Australia. Some products I have come across are somehow miraculously 70% more expensive as soon as they land on our shores and into our shops.

And that, to me, stinks.

In case you weren’t aware, we offer the sorella & me women’s and maternity collection to anyone in the world for the same price an Australian pays for it.

Why? Because why should an international customer pay more than an Australian customer? They shouldn’t.

Why should they pay less than an Australian customer? They shouldn’t.

Make no mistake, it’s the 2 major Australian department stores that have been the front runners for excessive mark ups for eons. It blows me away that they have gone from thinking we are stupid, to less stupid but still not entitled to buy goods for their RRP i.e., REAL retail price.

Why can’t they step up to the world-wide-shopping-plate, be competitive and just stop ripping us off?

What did you miss in 2012?

Welcome back to the sorella-hood for 2013! We hope you had a wonderful time over Christmas with your family and set for another fantastic year!

As parents start to get the back-to-school preparations started, and men and women over the country groan their way back to work (dreaming of any sort of opportunity to be able to quit work and financially fund a permanent residence at the beach), Alisha & I are so excited to be reaching sorella & me‘s first birthday later this month, and can’t wait to see where this year will take us (it’s going to be hard to top an amazing 2012!).

Aside from a overwhelming love of our sleepwear collection, a very surprising aspect of sorella & me last year was the growing love for this blog. We seemed to have naturally developed a little community of wonderful people to connect with via a couple of rambling posts each week.

If we can make you smile, raise some important questions, or perhaps help even answer some questions, then all the more important our time allocated for writing becomes.

Celebrating Baby’s 1st Birthday!

It’s Baby M’s 1^st Birthday today!

The gorgeous cherub we were lucky to have in our photoshoot last year is Baby M. She was just 2 weeks old at the time and it was her first big outing with mum. We loved having her there for the afternoon – the whole atmosphere of the shoot changed as soon as she arrived. What was a mid-afternoon slump in energy after an action packed 6 hours of shooting, quickly changed pace with the arrival of Baby M still with her yummy new baby smell – there is nothing quite as special as a new baby!

Grace Kelly: 30 years since her tragic death

It’s 30 years this week since Grace Kelly tragically died in a car accident. I blogged about my small but significant crush on her earlier this year, so I thought I would share it again today for those who may have missed it, along with this gorgeous pic I only recently found with her son Albert II. She was known to be an exceptionally dedicated mother.

I don’t know how or when it started – I can’t remember the first time I saw her but I suspect it had something to do with driving our mother crazy and her needing some quiet time. She probably plonked my sisters and I in front of Bill Collins’ Midday Movie and perhaps that particular day it happened to be the 1956 film High Society. It would very quickly become my all-time favorite movie, and Grace Kelly, my favourite ‘pretty lady from the movies’.

A feeling in my loins…

As many of you know, I am currently at the very start of planning my wedding. I am completely overwhelmed, terrified, nauseated, and literally sleepless with all the options, costs and ways it could all go very very wrong. To make matters worse, while I am shortlisting venues and finalising budgets, I have had every bride there has even been tell me “Oh it’s all so fabulous! I wish I was planning my wedding day again! It’s the BEST!”

Which does nothing except make me feel like I am missing something. Didn’t anyone else feel the pain of wedding-planning-crazy-land?

Interestingly, as I grapple with the “is it all really worth it – why can’t I just elope” question, it seems one mother in the sorella-hood has also felt a similar confusion when it came to the experience of the birth of her first baby.
